SWA Organizational Behavior Culture Southwest Airlinesââ¬â¢ Success through Organization Culture Kristin Philip Abstract This paper, Southwest Airlinesââ¬â¢ Success through Organization Culture gives an account of the development of the organizational culture of Southwest Airlines. The paper starts with the background of Southwest and its development over the years. The paper explains the unique culture of Southwest, and how it has helped Southwest Airlines to face challenges. The paper also describes how Southwest Airlines responded to the situation arising out of the September 11 terrorist attacks which dealt a severe blow to the airline industry. With a mixture of the human relations movement and the total quality management, Southwest made a place for its elf in the airline industry. Southwest management saw that McGregorââ¬â¢s Theory Y explained by Kinicki Kreitner would be a practice that would help productivity and employee well-being. McGregorââ¬â¢s theory Y proposed that managers could accomplish more through others by viewing them as self-energized, committed, responsible and creative beings. Southwest recognized that if an organization can provide job satisfaction to their employees, the satisfaction will trickle down to the customers that they serve. The satisfaction has a domino effect with the customers that the employees come in contact with. Customer satisfaction leads to customer loyalty, contributing to the profit of Southwest. Along with human relations, Southwest has a total quality protocol in when they hire their employees.
